Why do I need it?
Including a SADC certificate of origin with export shipments to SADC member countries allows for a reduction in import duties in the buyer’s county of import. Depending on the goods, the import duties can be significantly less than the general tariff, or even zero. This makes you a more competitive seller in the international market.
Countries accepting SADC certificates: Angola, Comoros, DRC, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Seychelles, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
Members of SACU are also SADC trading partners. However, as import duties do not apply within SACU, a SADC certificate makes no financial difference to trades between South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Lesotho and Eswatini.
SADC certificates are allocated per export, so you will need to complete a SADC certificate for each qualifying export shipment to claim the duty benefit.
